Ebino is a land abounding in history as well as natural beauty.
Bishamon is one of Buddhism's Seven Gods of Good Fortune and is said to have stayed in a nearby temple for a period in the late 1600s.
Waters fall approximately 20 meters in total and are complemented by one kilometer of secluded walking trails maintained by community volunteers. (map)

The valley was used as a sacred training ground for priests as early as
700 BC and the ruins of the second oldest Zen temple in Japan can be found
here. It is said to be the birthplace of Kuruson(Sanskrit : Krakucchanda),
one of the seven previous incarnations of Buddha.
Today beautiful spring greenery, fall colors, and summer camping are available. (map)
Fishing is also possible. Please keep in mind however that a permit is
required. Yearly permits cost 3,000 yen and daily permits are 500 yen.

The Ito Army set up camp beside this truly beautiful spring water pond
before the famous 1572 Battle of Kisakibaru in nearby Ikejima.
This location was used in Kazuo Kuroki’s film, “Utsukushii Natsu Kirishima.”

Fireflies are known to come out in early June.
In 1934, the Ebino Plateau was designated Japan’s first national park.
The wild deer of the Ebino Plateau were chosen as one of the “100 Sights and Sounds of Japan.” (map)
On May 4th, 1572, a fierce battle took place here between the troops of Shimazu and Ito. The Rokujizo-to (Jizo of the Six States of Existence) was built by the war lord Shimazu as a memorial to casualties on both sides. There is also a monument to the poetry of Yoshihiro Shimazu. (map)

Kanematsu was a powerful priest who settled in Kurishita, a district famous
for producing shōchū(a Japanese liquor made from sweet potatoes). He was
known for encouraging generosity and selflessness as well as tirelessly
helping those in times of need.
He was also incidentally a heavy drinker. It is said that his last words
before his death in 1777 were, "Bring an offering of shochu to my
shrine and I will grant you one wish. I shall grant not a second nor accommodate
greed."
Even today, people come from far and wide with wishes in hand, to give
offerings of shōchū. (map)
Masaki was the first train station in Miyazaki prefecture. Boarding passes from this unattended station are popular, as the name means “enter true happiness.” (map)
